This library allows to remove lines from images. Both vertical and horizontal lines can be removed from every kind of forms. The removal of lines is a very important pre-processing step before using ICR/OCR and recognizing characters from the acquired document.

You can specify several options to fine-tune the process:

• Mode
  In this way you can specify which kind of lines you need to remove: horizontal, vertical or both.
• Min Horizontal Size
  This option specifies minimum length that characterizes a horizontal line that must be removed. Each line will be examined and it will be removed if the length is greater than the specified value (in pixels).
• Max Horizontal Holes
  This option specifies the maximum number of blank pixels that can interrupt an horizontal line. Each line will be examined and it will be considered uninterrupted if the length of each interruption is lower than the specified value.
• Min Vertical Size
  This option specifies minimum length that characterizes a vertical line that must be removed. Each line will be examined and it will be removed if the length is greater than the specified value (in pixels).
• Max Vertical Holes
  This option specifies the maximum number of blank pixels that can interrupt a vertical line. Each line will be examined and it will be considered uninterrupted if the length of each interruption is lower than the specified value.
• Reconnection
  It specifies whether to re-connect lines and chars that cross a line that has been removed.
• Cleaning
  It specifies whether to delete isolated pixel along the borders of a line that has been removed.

In addition to these options you have to supply a monochrome DIB (Device Independent Bitmap) to process.

The removal procedure is fast and accurate. To obtain better results you can also use our deskew library , in order to correct inclination of the scanned images.
